until the economy improves, i am not too optimistic that something will happen in lame duck session if repubs win any of WVA, Illinois or Delaware senate seats, the terms of these senators expire immediately after election and repubs have more than fair shot at WVA and Illinois, i just want to pitch the little i know before making assumptions, please don't start posting -ve comments and post something that might help others on this topic,

i dont think you will get the copies of I140, it is owned by the company and they have every right to keep it. Nothing much you can do about it, its perfectly legal for them to do that. If its a desi lawyer you might have change of getting a copy but most of the lawyers will not suggest your company to give it. i went through the same, my company was ok with giving me the copy but the lawyers suggested against it.

Did you contact the SSN department in person or called them.? Its better to go in person and get hold of the supervisor.
My brother had the same issue, but after 2 weeks of waiting, he used to go to the local SSN opffice everyday and somehow was able to get hold of the supervisor. The Supervisor called him once they got the info in their system and also gave him the number. The actual card came after few days in mail. I would suggest you to contact the local SSA office Super/Admin and escalate your case saying you badly need the number to start working.

We applied SSN in Tulsa SSA office for my wife and kid. Wife and Kid still on H4.
They asked for
EAD
Birth Certificate
Passport
The good thing is that everything is online in Tulsa SSA office and you don't need to fill any form.

Recently we are seeing lot of people with new id without completing profile they are able to start new thread. What if admin enforced new user to fill the personnel information and then only they can post on this web site. More importantly some key massages\important issues get berried in active forums due to above issue.
Even going further we can put trial period for new users for 15 days .If they have any questions just pay 5-10 $ and get active in forum there answers will be provided by all our valued/all star members (most green as per rank) in this way we get more revenue and members get valued advice.
I totally disagree with this idea.
infact, for posting onto a forum or replying, there should be minimal registration info required, i would say, the handle, email id, password and the captcha and thats that.
IV should not kick into protective mode cos of one tunnel rat.
the site and the forums should attract people from all walks of life, regardless of their immigration status.
what if i m a lawyer and want to respond to things or post new threads?
what if i m a citizen and want to reply to something i know?
what if i m a father of a h1b trying to find an answer on tourist visas?
I dont want a lengthly registration form for that.

AFAIK DS 156 and DS !57 are no longer required. These have been replaced with DS 160.
My last experience in Mumbai consulate was 2 years back after I changed job and went to India. My experience was very good -- not a single question asked . An Indian lady called me and said your Visa is issued. Collected Passport in evening at VFS Office (BTW, there is a very long queue for passport collection)
However, I do not work for consulting company, never worked for any Desi Consulting and I already had a couple of H1 and L1 visa stamps in my passport.
I am travelling again now but avoiding the hassle of stamping. Returning with current stamp whcih will be valid for 10 more days after my return (I already have the extended 797)

It has to be approved before you can start to work. You can go with premium processing so its approved within a couple of weeks.
That is incorrect. It does not have to be approved before you can start working. My wife recently got her H1 to H4 to H1 approved and she started work as soon as H4 to H1 was filed.

After the lawerand medical examination took a long time my concurrent filing applicaiton was over night fedexed on Jun 28th from nj to nebraska and fedex did not pickup on Jun 28th due some weather and they try to deliver on Saturday which was Jun 30th and finally it was delivered on July 2nd 7:55AM and the check also not encashed and application also not returned.

I received my 140 and 485 denial letters on Mar 19th. The reason cited for the 140 denial letter was "effect of failure to respond to a RFE". I received the RFE on my 140 dated Feb 8th on Feb 15th and my law firm sent out the response to the RFE that reached TSC on Mar 11th as per the Fedex receipt.
What are my options going forth:
(1) File a MTR? should I file this myself or work with my law firm on this? What is the effort involved in filing the MTR as I understand from the denial letter that I have until Apr 14th to file the MTR?
(2)Is there any other means to communicate with TSC that my RFE response was received at TSC within the 33 day time limit and hence there is no basis for this denial?
(3) Re-file a new 140 petition?
Any inputs and other suggestions are appreciated

I think I'll try to find a knowledgeable lawyer who's not too snooty. Someone better than my current company's lawyer who happens to think all information to me should be provided only on a need to know basis..I am in Cincinnati Ohio so please recommend if you know any good names..

I went to court in NJ to pay fine and get rid of points for red-light ticket. I reached there by 5 PM and was not able to get out by 9 PM, 4 hours of hell. It happened that way because people who had attorneys with them were given special treatment and they were able to leave court well before others.
Having a good attorney always makes difference. If you don't have attorney then you are not contributing money towards people who run the system, hence the different treatment.

I returned to the US last year after a vacation and while my current visa's expiration date is July 2007 the customs official would only stamp my I-94 & authorize entry until May 2007 when my passport expires. My lawyer has applied for our extension using copies of my passport which is expiring soon but she advised that USCIS would need a copy of the new passport with new expiry date before approving my extension. The lawyer says your passport has to have an expiry date after the date of expiration of your visa extension. I will get a new I-94 with my visa extension btw this extension is the 3 year extension as our I-140 is approved but we have not filed for adj. of status yet. PD 5/03 EB3 ROW
