Fake. Apple "ordered" a company to send all its manuscripts to it?
Companies don't "order" each other around....that wouldn't get very far in the business world.

With this 3D facetracking display being rumored, the first thing I thought of was the future of iPad gaming.
Imagine playing a game, where instead of moving the right analog to change the camera angle, you just move your head to look around the corner.
(come on everybodys tried it with there tv at least once :P)
But then I came upon the fact that the placing of the cam on the ipad would pretty much prevent landscape mode since your thumb would be in the way.
Then of course, theres the new smart cover or any docking system, you could prop it up in landscape mode and use some sort of bluetooth controller or maybe an iPhone as a controller to your iPad.
I would be so impressed.

PS: I have a screw in the middle of the bottom. Dunno if it has always been there. It could inded have been addd to hold the new (different) logic board and the heatsink in place so both won't touch ach other. But it doesn't look like it was added afterwards... is there anyon who didn't get his macbook repaired yet have this screw too? It's exactly in the centre of the shell on the bottom of the case. Just beeing curious. :-)
Yes, the screw has always been there. Pictures were posted earlier. They're not sitting in the back of the Apple Store with power drills driving screws into the bottoms of your MacBooks...

"I can't think of any other company that could so totally redefine what a non-linear video editor is than Apple"
Aside from a few tidbits, FCX is (finally) catching up to many features that other NLEs have had for several years.
<insert fanboy excuses here>
Explain.
Those familiar with the other tools already know this. Here's a good summary:

"Something in the Air"? My first thought is wireless.
This could refer to:
- iPhone updates (just firmware, perhaps an early SDK release, or more flash memory)
- Ultraportable laptop
- A more advanced download service (Rentals?).

Out of the box Win2k does not map mp3 files to an application.
Product activation. Just sends info on computer--no personal info. One click. No big deal. Microsoft is just protecting its profits losses. I've had my Athlon for a year, changed a lot, XP still runs fine and hasn't bitched.
That's fine, however, I build a lot of RAIDS, shange a lot of hardware for testing and dev, and basically from my undersatnding of XP, you need to phone MS after X number of component changes.
Pain I don't need.
Windows is just as insecure as any desktop OS. I've seen many OS X security updates. Desktop OSes are worst for security if you don't know how to fully utilize the OS security components (i.e. NT Security Model, UNIX security model).
Windows and MS have a security record I'll leave to the press to explain. FreeBSD is a damn secure building block, and the OSX updates make me happy, because they are quick, and proactive.
MS is reactive...only after someone disobeys their security through obscurity model.
IIS has holes everywhere (new one baked fresh daily), while Apache has had...ummm...one.
If you want UNIX in Windows. Get cygwin.
I don't. I want UNIX.
Very wrong. Microsoft has a shared-source (other name for open source) .NET VM, compiler, etc. for BSD called ROTOR. It's just as good as the commercial counterpart for Windows, which is free. Hell, ROTOR works on Windows if you want to have ROTOR on Windows. Besides, Mono is GPL'ed open source implementation of Microsoft.NET.
JScript is not only for IE. It's used in scripting. JScript.NET isn't for IE anyways. It's a scripting language that can be compiled into .NET MSIL CLR.
C# is a ECMA standard. Java isn't. It isn't bad C++. It isn't even C++. It's Microsoft's version of SUN's Java with quite some differences from Java. C# isn't Java per se, but very similar. C# is actually a very elegant language. It just works.
You're correct about C# (do you call it c sharp, c pound, c hash, or c octothorpe (http://theregister.co.uk/content/archive/26108.html) ). I brain farted there. I was thinking of something else, and can't find the link, so I'll let it be.
Anyway, regardless of MS trying, perhaps well, to open the .net framework, I still know hundreds of network application builders, and maybe 5 are really excited about .net. Additionally, in my application service provider experience, ASP/COM/IIS caused more trouble than Java servlets on Solaris, and again, scaled like dookie.
Anyway, I'm happy in JavaLand, and you seem happy in the .net, so we can close that argument here, unless, of course, you'd like to close.
Microsoft also encourages standards with XML Web Services. It's an open standard. There's a XML Web Service implementation for Java by SUN. It will play friendly with Microsoft.NET.
Good. Now if only they could encourage compliant html...
COM/ASP scalability is just as bad as PHP scalability. Microsoft.NET solves this with ASP.NET which is far much more powerful and scalable.
I've seen more ways to create memory leaks with ASP/IIS/COM than anywhere ever before. I've seen a PowerEdge serving 5 QA testers slow to a full and complete stop.
I'm glad to hear that this is improving.
I don't care if its bloody UNIX your granny sends emails from, she still doesn't know and therefore doesn't take full advantage of UNIX. Marshmellow? 98 Mode? Microsoft has dumped 9x and moved on with NT/2k/XP.
My opinion is based solely on the number of annoying relatives who I have to support over the phone!
Marshmellow and 98 refer to the two XP themes, also commonly referred to as Fisher Price and Classic.
Also, look at the UI, HID, and Usability Departments of your major OS vendors. Many OS vendors and software developers hire FROM Apple. Wonder why that is....?
At the end of the day, if I'm going to look at it 40+ hours a week, I appreciate it looking good.
Why not simply respond to the request of action immediately then move on. Since when would it freeze the OS? Never happened to me. You don't have to answer to continue. Windows NT/2k/XP uses protected memory, just like Mac OS X. In fact, Windows had it long before Mac OS X even came out the public.
'Cause I multitask. I hit 'Empty Recycle Bin', and I start doing things. If I'm tossing an enormous old source tree, it takes the computer a few seconds to catch up. I'm in a different window. I can now do nothing until I drill back down and close that alert. Try it, you'll see what I mean.
This is the one bothering me right now, but there are many others.
Well... I haven't come across anything counter-intuitive or time wasting in XP. It's all opinonated.
As I said, I don't use XP, and I'm glad it is improving. However, I do find 2k clunky and counter intuitive.
Mac is better vs. PC again. Remember. PC isn't Windows. Besides, the faster speed can help by increasing productivity by making things seem extremely responsive.
Thanks for semantic shout out number 2. I will go on the record now, and let y'allses (plural of y'all) know that by PC I mean Windows on x86. When I want to talk about other OSes on x86, I'll reference them by name.
The faster speed does help combat the clunk.
Wow, you need that much to be productive under Mac OS X? Jeez.
When I'm doing everything I can do, and letting the computer do everything it can do, it can't hurt. How much RAM does Windows want to burn a cd, while watching a QT stream, while editing text, while compiling, with people banging on your Apache server, and iSyncing your iPod, as well as browsing, with a cron job running, while your other optical drive is ripping MP3s?
In my experience, Windows used to beat a Mac senseless in multi tasking, and now the reverse is true...could be me just doing too much though...
Then you're doing something wrong. Try out Windows XP. Very destructive BSODs, like what? I've only had one about win32k.sys, but that was a memory corruption issue that I quickly solved. Windows XP is absolutely STABLE here.
Having gone a few months without one (feverishly knock on wooden desk), I don't know off the top of my head what they are. However, I know at least 4 times in 12 months I've had my Win2k partition go south...way south.
I know my Win2k serial by heart (looks down in shame).
Again, I'm responding based on things I've experienced and things I've read, and sometimes (C#) something gets replaced inthe memory array. If you're happy where you are, run with it, but don't expect me not to defend my platform of (informed) choice here at macrumors.com.

I'm a student about to go to uni and have worked ALL summer holidays to save up for an imac, and now i hear they will be updating it! I'm still within my 14 day 'no questions asked' return period, but i will be out of that period on 12th september which its supposed to be released.
I was just wondering if anyone had past experiences with apple when going from PPC to intel- is there a 30-day period or something where if you brought a PPC imac, they would exchange it to the intel based imac as a good-will gesture. If they do then fantasti- no need for me to send it back and wait to see if the rumour comes true (and leave myself without a computer in the meantime)
I'm studing computer science and am a heavy user, so ANY speed increases are very welcome. bring on the coore 2 duos! I was a PC user since beginning of time (thats all my parents brough lol) but now ive gone to mac and osx, theres no looking back.
dont get me wrong, the imac is QUICK with 2GB RAM, but core 2 duo is faster....
any help would be really appreciated.

They make all of Nikons sensors, even the high end D3S and D3X dSLRs ones. They also made (or make?) Canon point and shoot sensors; at least as of a few years ago. Sony was one of the first with backlit CMOS as well.
Oh, and I think Pentax, if you want to consider them a camera compay, uses Sony sensors.
Pentax use Samsung sensors.

Heh, yeah. I especially love all the posts about how it was a huge mistake for Apple to get into the mp3 player market (that the iPod would die a quick death and be a colossal failure).
I think that is the problem when we buy so much into the speculation and hype - Apple releases something that, on the surface, is boring (i.e. "WTF?!?!?!? It's just an MP3 player and not some revolutionary new device?!!?!?!?"), but which has a much greater chance of success than some of the more out there stuff we want them to do. As a former Newton user, for example, I would be ecstatic if Apple did release a Newton 3000 or something, but I also realize that there is a good reason they aren't doing that - there still just doesn't seem to be a widespread market for PDA's at this point. So an MP3 player might be boring, but it turned out to be a very smart move for Apple.
That just say to you how important an amazing Steve Jobs is. The man has the talent to foresees what will be a hit and what won't be.
We are luck to have him and Apple together. I remember when he was not behind Apple and how things were bad. I am glad he is there now.
The truth is what seems to be the logical thing for us might not be for him, so, I rather have him tell me that.
I hope he will stay at Apple for long, long time.

Just buy the CDs. Better quality, you have a physical CD, and as an example, you can get the blue album for 5 from high street stores (8.99 on Amazon who always seem to be expensive for music and DVDs these days), on iTunes it is 17.99.

New Nanos are available at the 5th Ave. store in New York. I picked up the black 8GB this morning. Also, they are giving the educational discount on them. Perhaps they only disabled it online.
The Apple Store at Arden Fair in Sacramento, CA is supposed to start selling all the new iPod models today. If I had the money I'll spring for a 4 GB Silver nano. :D

People don't care about Flash Player itself, they just want the ability to play video in the browser, which the iPhone is perfectly capable of doing. So instead of lobbying Apple for Flash support we should be lobbying web developers for video tag support.
Developers aren't the problem. A lot of it is Internet Explorer and Microsoft not supporting standards. For one, IE doesn't do much html5. Microsoft will probably never support the svg-based "flash killer" canvas tag. Also, due to bickering on all browser makers, HTML5 doesn't specify a mandatory video format so you have Apple doing mpeg-4, Firefox and friends doing ogg, and IE supporting nothing. And let's not forget users who still run IE6.
Out of the box, most Windows machines don't know how to play MP4 files (unless a user has QuickTime) but most do play flash content. Mac OS X won't play ogg out of the box. So you're left with Flash. As a web developer, Flash is the easiest way to get multimedia, especially video, on your website and looking the same in all browsers. Unless you run a predominately Mac OS X website, HTML5 just isn't ready for prime time yet.

That's shameful, I thought we were better than that.
I was just coming on to see what was up with that. Did someone from here really send in a tip? What good does that do? Its not like Apple is going to go on MacRumors and say "Well there is a rumor we are going to release, lets just do it".....Stupid!

I said if my dad ever met John Lennon: that meant that JL is about the only one with musical talent in the Beatles. Try reading a little bit better next time.
And suggesting, or even blatantly stating, that Beatles and Madonna have transcended music more than Bach is about as musically stupid as it comes. Bach not only wrote his own music (Madonna just drops into a studio every now and then), he could also conduct orchestras (the Beatles could do one thing individually; that's why they are called the Fab FOUR), his impact on developing Baroque music is unquestioned and his composition skills and musical knowledge have been admired by the likes of Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven.
24 must be your musical IQ; get some education before you enter discussions like this.
It's exactly what I'm stating...transcending music means their impact has gone above and beyond music. They had an impact on society. You don't have to be a student of music to know who they are and what they have done. How did Bach transcend music?
You need some education as well. Madonna can play numerous musical instruments (she was a drummer in a band before she hit big) and has written music and lyrics for years. And she can dance! Can Bach dance??
And seriously, nobody is going to take you seriously if you are rude and dismissive. Just because you like classical music doesn't make you smarter than everyone else. Everyone has different tastes. Deal with it.

I hope he will stay at Apple for long, long time.
The man has the talent to foresees what will be a hit and what won't be.

hey, good job actually keeping the consumer and the pro lines separate this time, no more of that "low end MBP has the same clockspeed as a high end MB"

wont miss him I think the Facebook app could be much better
That may be true about the bugs but it's considered to be the best Facebook app on any mobile platform and he alone worked on it. He does say in his Twitter posts (@joehewitt) that bug fixes were already submitted and I believe push notifications as well.
When you hear stories, like this week and the political bobble head fiasco, you really wonder what is going on at Apple.

So when are these Merom MBPs coming out? I really don't care too much for an iTunes Movie Store. Some of us have been waiting since January.

So i went to best buy and they didnt get any iPads in. Only reservations for $100. What the eff was the point of the whole promotion crap and big ad in the newspapers. What a disappointment (nothing new)? Anyways i went over to toys r us at around 12, and bought their first iPad of the day, funny thing is, is that they opened at 9 am. How the hell does best buy get no iPads and our toys r us down the street gets 5?
